Food Diary
The information you record in your food diary will help you and your family design an eating program to meet your special needs. Studies have shown that keeping track of what you eat for even one day can help you make changes in your diet.
A few tips to remember as you get started:
- Write down/record everything you eat and drink all day. Every piece of candy, can of soda, etc. adds up over the course of a week.
- Do it now. Don’t depend on your memory at the end of the day. Record you’re eating as you go.
- Be specific. Be sure to include everything, including extras such as gravy, cheese, etc. Don’t generalize. For example, record french fries as french fries, not potatoes.
Here are four reasons a Food Diary is an important part of your overall wellness program:
- It’s simple. Just keep track of what you eat during the day and then enter on your on-line record when you can.
- It’s eye opening. Some people are shocked at how many calories are in some of the foods they eat regularly.
- It helps you track progress. Use the diary as a way to make adjustments throughout the day and to gauge how much exercise you need to hit a certain calorie count.
- You’re accountable to someone. Whether it be a family member, your doctor or yourself, having to write it down makes you think before varying from your plan.
Good luck and stick with this valuable tool!!!
